If you have an internet connection and a few dollars in your bank account, there isn’t much that can actually stop you from making extra money online. Whether for additional income or a real salary and start a business.

There are literally hundreds of smart ways to make money online. These are shortcuts that don’t last forever – and many of the “opportunities” like the network marketing giants Herbalife and others offer often turn out to be either a scam or, at the very least, harmful to the business. If there is a niche that interests you and can build a decent audience around it, starting a blog and using affiliate marketing to generate income is an amazing way to make money. Online.

It takes time and effort, but website owners like me and Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income have built life-changing careers through Affiliate Marketing. Let’s start with the basics of building your niche website and blog, then get into how affiliate marketing is going to work for you.

First of all, you need to research and validate a profitable affiliate niche. What it means: Are there companies in your niche that will pay you to send customers their way?

You can verify this in several ways:

  • Become an Amazon Associate and then use the Keyword Planner to find a demand niche. With over a million different products to choose from and up to 10% commission on the sales you make, the program Amazon affiliate is a great place to start. Browse their available products and see what connects you to them. Or take it a step further and use Google’s Keyword Planner to quickly check how many people are searching for a specific term. With affiliate marketing, the more relevant traffic you can attract, the more you will make out of your site.
  • Join a Reputable Affiliate Network: Outside of Amazon, there are dozens of large, reputable affiliate networks, such as Share-A-Sale, Clickbank, and Skimlinks, that specialize in putting you in touch with merchants looking for affiliates to sell their products. They charge a relatively low commission fee for the privilege of connecting with merchants, and the merchants on these sites tend to offer much higher commission percentages or fixed-amount payments.
  • Look for individual businesses in the niche of your choice: If possible, it’s always best to become a direct affiliate with a business (if they have an internal affiliate program), as no one else will be using your rate. Bluehost even has a nifty domain name uptime checker that you can use right here to quickly see if your website URL is available or not (and if it’s not, they’ll give you suggestions on the next best idea).

Once you have your domain name, you will need a platform to build your site. While you can choose a free option like Tumblr, Blogger, WordPress .com, or some other website builder, these won’t give you the flexibility or authority you need to build a truly successful affiliate site.

Instead, go for a site hosted by yourself (as is the case with my blog here) – which means that your blog will be hosted on your own server, and you will have full control over it. There are tons of very reputable and affordable companies that you can choose from to host your websites, like Bluehost, Kinsta, or A2 Hosting.

Once your domain name and hosting are sorted, it’s time to choose a CMS, or Content Management System, which will allow you to update your pages, build your blog and integrate all the other services you need. . It’s hard to go wrong with WordPress – the CMS powering nearly a quarter of the internet. Keep in mind that as you start to increase traffic to your blog, you will be wise to invest in a WordPress hosting plan run by a company with a great service like Kinsta. All of the settings are customized and optimized to work particularly well with WordPress websites.

Now you can choose a WordPress theme from somewhere like ThemeForest, Elegant Themes, or OptimizePress. It’s the barebones design of your site, which you can then customize with your own branding, copy, and images. That being said, you don’t want to break the bank. It costs less than $ 100 to buy a theme that will make your website look professional (and you can upgrade to a fully custom design once you’ve started your business).

Since it is safe to assume that the purchase intent on hiking backpack searches is quite high, the next logical step is that a reasonable number of site visitors would click through using my links from affiliate and make a purchase over time.

While it often takes a lot of time and works to build your affiliate income, if you have the ability to regularly post high-quality content that drives targeted traffic to your website, this online income stream can become very important.

Launch and grow a start-up business

Do you dream of running your own business one day? Building and scaling a young, high-growth business, while for the most difficult way to make money online, is arguably the biggest one. Growth potential.

If finding a better solution to a problem that hundreds of thousands of people have doesn’t seem like an option right now, you might be better off setting up a virtual store and selling physical items through your advertising. And your announcements.

These days it couldn’t be easier. Sites like Shopify have made it easier than ever to build a customizable and powerful eCommerce site in a weekend, and product sales start now.

It is probably one of the oldest and most proven ways to make money online. Many digital entrepreneurs have created sustainable businesses thanks to one or the other:

Of course, there is a higher price per product, and your margins are lower, but you can start your online store with little more than a Shopify theme and a few hosted images of your products. When a customer makes a purchase, you, in turn, buy the product from your supplier, who then ships it directly to your customer.

No inventory. You do not handle products yourself. No hand shipping. Sounds pretty awesome.

If you want to supplement the sale on your Shopify store with other marketplaces, here are some other very lucrative options:

How many vacancies are there similar to yours? If there is a decent amount of them and there seems to be a constant demand, put those skills on a shortlist and start researching which companies and industries are hiring.

  • Decide on your goal: Do you want a little extra income, or do you want to work full time as a freelancer? It takes time to set up a freelance business working from home, so knowing your goals upfront is important.
  • Finding a Profitable Niche: We’ve talked a lot about this. But, where are you most comfortable. What niche do your skills, values ​​, and interests overlap? Do you have 10 years of experience as a technical writer? Do you have a long-standing PR relationship that will be invaluable in helping start-ups successfully launch a crowdfunding campaign? Determine what makes your value unique and place a strong emphasis on showcasing that strength to your potential customers.
  • Identify target customers: Write down exactly who you want as a customer, then start researching those companies and building your list. You’ll want your wallet and cold emails to align with the businesses you reach out to.

Much like selling your freelance services, you can also start selling your knowledge and advice in an area you specialize in as a coach or consultant. If you can charge yourself as an expert, there are tons of people out there who are willing to pay for your time.

Being an online coach or consultant is a great way to make money online because instead of giving your client permanent deliverables (like when you’re a freelancer), you teach them how to be better, faster. And stronger than the competition. Your expertise becomes the product you sell.

Better yet, if you can find ways to fit your coaching experience and skills into an easy-to-learn program, you have the potential to significantly expand this business model.

Now, if you don’t know of people who might want your coaching services, several online tools and communities make it incredibly easy to find clients and teach on just about any subject. So how do you go about developing your course? One of my favourite online course success stories comes from Bryan Harris of Videofruit, who built and launched an online course in just 10 days that grossed him $ 220,750!

To achieve this impressive goal, Bryan followed a four-step process to discover, validate, and launch his course:

Phase 1: Explore and discover the best topic for your course from the most popular articles on your blog. This allowed him to make sure he knew the content was already valuable to his audience.

Phase 2: Validate that people would actually pay for your course by surveying readers and getting preorders. (This is an important part that so many people forget. Never spend a lot of time building something unless you know there is a paying audience for it).

Start a YouTube channel to entertain and educate

Although YouTube recently changed its monetization schedule, if you’re able to hit its new minimum bar of 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 viewing hours in the past 12 months, it’s still an amazing place to make money. Extra money online.

Starting a YouTube channel is a lot like starting a blog or a website, except that you are in the video business, not in the writing business. The first step is to choose the type of videos you are going to create. Most of the most popular YouTube channels fall into one of two categories:

Make sure you are using a high-quality camera (most smartphones will work, but I suggest you have at least a tripod, so your images don’t shake), but don’t worry about being perfect at first. The beauty of YouTube is that you can keep experimenting with different content and styles as you find what works for you. Instead, follow a regular schedule to build your subscriber base.

You can optimize your videos to rank higher by experimenting with eye-catching descriptions and previews, as well as using relevant tags. You need to stand out and make people want to click on your video.

As you start to deliver content regularly, you will hopefully start to build a bit of an audience. But to start seeing real money on YouTube, you need to market your videos elsewhere.
